The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are announcing changes to the team management and coaching staff ahead of the 2013/14 WOAA Senior Hockey League season.
Following the Winterhawks third straight league championship, general manager Scott Jamieson and assistant coach Don MacLeod stepped down from their respective positions. The Winterhawks would like to thank both Scott and Don for their efforts during their time with the club and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
To that end, the Winterhawks are pleased to announce Don Matheson has accepted the position of general manager. Matheson is a familiar face to the organization, having served as the first head coach in franchise history, coaching the team to two championship seasons during his four years behind the Winterhawks bench from 2007-2011.
The Southampton native also played for the original Lakeshore Winterhawks during the 1990s.
Were thrilled to have Don back with the organization. He brings a tremendous hockey eye and a reputation that is second to none in the area. We have no doubt he will continue the successful recruiting of top players to the Winterhawks for years to come, said team president Gord Lamont.
Joining head coach Peter Roedgers staff as an assistant coach is Mark Kazarian. Kazarian is well known in the Owen Sound area for his lacrosse exploits, and is a member of the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
He also has an impressive hockey resume, playing junior and intermediate hockey with the Owen Sound Greys, followed by senior hockey with Durham. He also coached his sons at the minor hockey level in Owen Sound.
Im excited to join an organization that strives to win every year. I like to coach with a true team concept in mind and thats how the Winterhawks play. Teams win championships, not players, and Im looking forward to helping this club win again, said Kazarian.
Doug Mitchell and Dave Rosner will be returning to the club for the 2013/14 season as assistant coach and goaltending coach, respectively.
