The Rama Moccasin and Smoke Shop report they are closing tonight at 6 pm on orders of the local band council.
The announcement, which affects all smoke shops on the reserve, came via their Facebook page.
The letter (at right) from the Band Council reads in part:
“We must continue to drastically reduce visitors to Rama First Nation and to keep practising social distancing. It is vital to our community’s health. We also continue to respond to community members concerns about limiting visitors to the First Nation. As such, we are temporarily ordering all cigarette and smoke shops in Rama to close April 8th at 6 pm. This temporary closure is in effect until April 15th. By that date, Chief and Council will determine if the closure will be extended.”
Rama Road is currently closed through Chippewas of Rama First Nation and only local traffic is being allowed through.
OPP and Rama Police are currently on scene helping drivers return home.
They ask that drivers please be patient and expect delays.
