The Desboro Midget girls went “3 and 1” in the Kitchener Cornerstone Invitational tournament on the weekend.
Desboro earned a birth in the championship games on Sunday, but the remaining games were cancelled due to rain.
After playing a double-header in league play Thursday night, Desboro opened up the tournament with back-to-back wins over Kitchener Black and Guelph Friday morning.
Maddy Moore tossed a 4-hitter, with 9 strike-outs and issued 1 walk against Kitchener in this 2-0 win, handing Kitchener their first loss of the season.
Jess McGregor scored the winning run after reaching base on a walk, advancing on a sacrafice bunt by Jess Bullock and scoring on a bunt single by Katherine Teeter.
Kaitlyn Knox scored an insurance run after her lead-off triple. Moore had 2 singles.
Desboro downed Guelph 7-4 starting the game off strong with a 5 run first inning.
Leandra Anderson, Dani McNabb, Amanda Zettle and McGregor had 2 hits apiece.
Emily McAdam doubled.
Moore pitched her second complete game of the day allowing 7 hits with 2 walks and 6 strike-outs.
Saturday’s schedule had Desboro playing another back-to-back match-up with Halton Hills and Palmerston.
The Midgets were all offense as they exploded for a 14-2 win over Halton Hills.
McAdam earned the win giving up 6 hits with 1 walk. She helped her cause with a double and single, as did McNabb.
Knox added a triple.
The Palmerston Marlins inched out a 9-8 win.
Moore allowed 9 hits with 3 strike-outs in the loss.
McNabb, McAdam, McGregor and Anderson each had 2 hits.
The top four teams; Mississauga, Desboro, Kitchener Black and Guelph were to playoff on Sunday.
