When the Shallow Lake Crushers got the news that coach Randy Gibbons was stepping down as their head coach at the end of the season they thought they would be spending the summer looking for a replacement.
The Executive can now breathe a sigh of relief as a replacement was closer than they thought.
The Crushers have acquired Port Elgin native Ian Little as their new head coach for next season.
Ian has been involved hockey for many years, first as a player playing junior in Sarnia, Petrolia and Peterborough and in 1989 he started playing Senior A for the Winterhawks.
Ian went on to play over 300 games with Saugeen Shores and Lucknow and played his final games in Senior A with Shallow Lake two years ago.
He is no stranger to the coaching end having coached minor hockey in Port Elgin, AAA with the Grey Bruce Highlanders and this past season was an assistant with the Crushers.
The Crushers are excited to have Ian move up to head coach stated Crusher President Gary McMillan, he was a team leader both on the ice an off the ice when he played and all of the other players respect that he knows the game. With Ian theres no beating around the bush and he says it like it is. If someone isnt pulling their weight he will tell them, but in a polite way.
Ian has already jumped in with both feet and his using his contacts to recruit some new faces for next season. He will also be bringing his new assistant coaching staff, yet to be announced.
Tryouts for next season are set for early September and anyone interested in a tryout with the Crushers can call Ian at 519-386-3321
