Jim Grieve named new Winterhawks coach
SAUGEEN SHORES – Thursday, June 9, 2011 – The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are pleased to announce that former Assistant Coach Jim Grieve has accepted the position of head coach of the Winterhawks.
“When Don Matheson and Barry Hall stepped down at the end of the season, we discussed our options and it was unanimous among the executive that Jim Grieve was our first choice,” said Team President Gord Lamont. “We’re really happy he’s accepted the position and confident he will be able to continue our strong record of success.”
After capturing their second league championship in four years at the helm of the ‘Hawks, both Matheson and Hall decided to step down last month due to a combination of increasing family and work commitments.
Grieve, who has been with the team since it arrived back onto the WOAA Senior AA scene in 2007, is currently working at filling out his coaching staff with an announcement to be made this summer.
“We’ve been fortunate to have a talented team each year and the players are committed to doing what it takes to win,” said Grieve. “I’m looking forward to next season and defending our title.
Grieve, who hails from Burgoyne, played seven years with the old Sr. A Lakeshore Winterhawks, as well as stints with the Intermediate A Sunocos, the Sr. A Ripley Wolves and the Jr. C Port Elgin Bears. He has been coaching for 15 years including stints as an assistant coach at the peewee, bantam and midget levels.
