The Collingwood Collegiate Institute Fighting Owls Football teams have hit the Grid Iron this week in preparation for the 2010 GBSSA Football season. Of the 50+ players on the Senior Owls roster, there are 23 student-athletes returning from the 2009 GBSSA Championship Team which includes several key offensive starters. The Senior Owls team is anxious to defend their 2009 title & are training very hard. On Friday September 17th the CCI Senior Football team will be travelling to London ON to participate in pre-season scrimmages against two high school teams from that city. Speaking of the pre-season tournament in London, “We will be able to give all of our players some experience in game-like conditions, that will help us evaluate each player and determine where they will be the greatest value to our Club. Based on what we have seen in training camp so far, I think that we will be very competitive in the 2010 season said Coach Dave Butler.
The Junior Fighting Owls are in Pre-Season Action on September 23rd, playing in a Tournament in the GTA against several High Schools from all over the Province. It will be the third time that the Jr Owls have played in this tournament. The Junior Fighting Owls It is a great opportunity for our team to play against several opponents in a single day. The game exposure that our players get by playing in this tournament will really build their confidence moving forward into the 2010 Football Season said Head Coach Peter Sammon. The Junior Owls have over 60 players on their roster.
The Fighting owls start their seasons on this Friday, October 1st 2010. The Juniors will travel to Orillia for their Season Opener and the Seniors will host Barrie North in a rematch of the 2009 GBSSA Championship game. Kickoff at 2:30pm for both games. Come out to Cheer on the 2010 FIGHTING OWLS!
