Augusta James Takes the Lead at Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls Championship
Verona, ON Local favourite Augusta James squeaked into a one-stroke lead at the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls Championship at Rivendell Golf Club in Verona, Ontario. The Bath, Ontario native carded an even-par 71 for the second straight day to claim the top spot on the leaderboard.
James, a member at Loyalist Country Club, carded three birdies against a pair of bogeys and a double on the par-4 10th hole. A contingent of local fans is expected to be on site for tomorrows third and final round to support the 17 year old in her bid for her first Ontario Junior Girls title.
First round leader Brittany Marchand of Orangeville is close behind James after carding a second-round 74, adding to yesterdays 69 for a total score of 143 (+1). Marchand will no doubt put up a strong fight for the title when she tees off alongside James tomorrow morning.
Two golfers are tied for third place at four-over par, Newmarket resident and University of Maryland womens golf team member Hayley Brown (72-74) and recent Toronto Star Womens Amateur champion Brogan McKinnon (73-73) of Mississauga.
Vivian Tsui of Markham and Newmarkets Delaney Howson are tied for fifth place at five strokes off the lead while Barries Jackie Yanch and Unionvilles Julia Hodgson sit tied for seventh.
Following two rounds of play, the field has been cut to the low 54 golfers and ties, with 55 players advancing to Thursdays third and final round and the cut falling at 180. Final round action gets under way at 7:30 am with the lead group of James, Marchand and Brown set to tee off at 10:30.
