The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League have hired former Owen Sound Grey Brad Tiley as an assistant coach.
Tiley, who played for the Greys in 1987-88, will join the coaching staff with head coach Mark Reeds and assistant coach Jeff Reid.
After the Greys, Tiley played 3 seasons in the Ontario Hockey League for the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds, winning the OHL title with the Hounds in 1991.
At the 1991 Memorial Cup, Tiley was selected as one of the tournament all stars.
Following junior hockey, Tiley played pro hockey for the next 18 years, spending the past two seasons in Austria and finally in Japan.
Over that span, Tiley played 11 games in the NHL with Phoenix and Philadelphia.
Attack General Manager Dale DeGray, who played with Tiley and against him in Minor Pro hockey, relates the process of adding Tiley to the coaching staff has been ongoing.
DeGray says the discussions started a year ago, but Tiley indicated he wanted to play another season of pro hockey before making a decision.
Overall, DeGray believes this is an exceptional alignment for everyone involved.
Long time Owen Sound hockey fans get to see a former Grey travel a 20 year circle and return to the Harry Lumley-Bayshore where his junior days began.
The Attack get Tiley’s playing experience which should nurture their defenders.
And Tiley gets a ground floor opportunity to experience coaching at an elite level.
