The Brampton Battalion are one win away from their first ever appearance in the Ontario Hockey League final.
Scott Tanski broke a 2-2 tie at 3:25 of the third period and added a needed insurance goal as the Battalion held off the Belleville Bulls 4-3 Tuesday to take a 3-1 series lead in their Eastern Conference Championship series.
They really took it to us for the first half of the game,’ Brampton coach Stan Butler said.`Thomas McCollum gave us a chance to stay in it and once (Matt) Duchene scored late in the second our energy level was a lot better. Belleville’s a very good defensive team and to score three goals like that in a period is a credit to our players.’
Belleville opened the scoring at 4:03 of the first period on Nick Palmieri’s first goal of the game.
They added to their lead on the power play 3:04 into the second period when Bryan Cameron beat Thomas McCollum to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Brampton got some life at 17:54 of the second period when Matt Duchene beat Belleville goalie Mike Murphy, reducing the deficit to one goal.
