(NFL-Number-One Pick)
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew says there has been some moderate interest from other teams seeking a trade for the number-one pick.
However, Mayhew adds the chances are very good Detroit will have a deal done with the first-overall selection before the N-F-L draft begins Saturday.
Detroit is expected to draft Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry or Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith with the top pick.
(CFL-Bombers)
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers may have been losers on the football field last season, but they were winners off of it.
The Canadian Football League team announced a profit of 761-thousand dollars for a season in which the team went 8-10 and lost the East Division semifinal to Edmonton.
That’s a turnaround of more than one million dollars from 2007, when the franchise lost 263-thousand dollars.
