GUELPH, Ont. – T.J. Brodie had a goal and an assist as the Saginaw Spirit earned a 4-1 win and completed a first-round sweep of the Guelph Storm. Richard Jarusek, Chris Chappell and Nick Crawford also scored for the Spirit.
Peter Holland replied for the Storm.
Edward Pasquale made 19 saves for Saginaw while Jake Fischer stopped 39 shots for Guelph.
ERIE, Pa. – Michael Del Zotto and Phil Varone each had a goal and an assist as the London Knights beat Erie 4-2, pushing the Otters to the brink of elimination from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.
The Knights lead the best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final 3-1 and can wrap up the series Saturday in London, Ont.
Scott Aarssen and Justin Taylor, into an empty net, also scored for London, while John Carlson added two assists.
Greg McKegg and Tyler Hostetter replied for Erie.
Trevor Cann made 16 saves for the Knights while Jaroslav Janus stopped 25 shots for the Otters.
SARNIA, Ont. – Matt Caria scored twice and added an assist and Matt Hackett made 27 saves as the Plymouth Whalers blanked the Sarnia Sting 5-0. The Whalers lead the Western Conference quarter-final 3-1 and can eliminate the Sting with a win in Game 5 Sunday in Plymouth, Mich.
Tyler Seguin added a goal and two assists for Plymouth, while Tyler J. Brown and Ryan Hayes also scored.
Dan Spence stopped 27 shots for the Sting.
BARRIE, Ont. – Darren Archibald scored in overtime and the Barrie Colts avoided elimination from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
The Majors lead the series 3-1, with Game 5 going Saturday in Barrie.
Michael Sgarbossa scored two regulation goals for Barrie, which came back from a 2-0 deficit to win Game 4.
Jared Gomes and Kaspars Daugavins scored fro Mississauga.
Peter Di Salvo made 36 saves for Barrie while JP Anderson stopped 39 shots for Mississauga.
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Thomas McCollum made 32 saves and the Brampton Battalion beat the Peterborough Petes 3-2, completing a sweep of the Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference quarter-final series.
Matt Duchene, Andrew Merrett and Brad Albert staked Brampton to a 3-0 lead.
Peterborough’s Tony Romano scored two third-period goals to make it close, but the Petes couldn’t find the game-tying goal.
Jason Missiaen made 30 saves for the Petes.
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – Thomas Kiriakou scored two third-period goals as the Ottawa 67’s pulled even in their Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference quarter-final with a 6-4 win over the Niagara IceDogs.
The series is tied 2-2 with the IceDogs hosting Game 5 Saturday in St. Catharines.
Logan Couture also scored twice for the 67’s while Stephen Blunden and Cody Lindsay added singles.
Andrew Agozzino had two goals for Niagara while Drew Schiestel and Mathew Sisca also scored.
Adam Courchaine made 37 saves for Ottawa while Jeremy Smith stopped 41 shots for Niagara.
