The Windsor Spitfires eliminated the Owen Sound Attack from the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs with a 6-3 win at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
Dale Mitchell & Taylor Hall both scored twice for the Spitfires who swept the best of 7 Western Conference Quarterfinal 4 games to none.
Greg Nemisz & Eric Wellwood also scored for Windsor who now advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
Windsor coach Bob Boughner feels the series win is a natural progression for the Spitfires who were a non-playoff team two years ago and have overcome adversity on and off the ice to be the # 1 contender for the OHL Championship.
The lone blemish for the Spitfires might be in goal, where Andrew Engelage was lifted for the second time in the series.
Otherwise, Boughner states he believes the only team capable of stopping the Spitfires is the Spitfires themselves.
David Kolomatis, Joey Hishon & Grant McGee scored for the Attack who were outshot by a wide margin for the 4th straight game.
Attack coach Mark Reeds admitted Windsor is the more talented team, but he also felt they received tremendous leadership and their leaders worked hard to secure the quick series victory
The Spitfires now prepare for round 2 while the Attack will have their ” exit ” meetings on Thursday
