Owen Sound Alpine skier Larisa Yurkiw is competing at the Canadian Alpine Championships this week in the province of Quebec.
Yurkiw is coming off a weekend of solid results in the NorAm Cup at Lake Placid, New York in which she won three different races.
This is just the second time in months that Yurkiw has been on the slopes in North America.
Since late November, she has been competing for Canada on the World Cup circuit, skiing in Italy, Austria, France, Germany & Bulgaria.
This was Yurkiw’s first season on the Women’s World Cup circuit and she says she’s already eager to compete again next year.
Many times, she recorded ” DNF ” results or was disqualified, but she relates that’s all a part of the learning process when skiing the world’s best slopes against the world’s best skiers.
The highlight of her season was January 17th at Austria where she won the first end of the combined race.
Even then, Yurkiw admits she made an error on the course, but it was one she was able to overcome and score the victory in.
