Martin Brodeur is chasing another N-H-L milestone. The veteran goaltender stopped 35 shots for his 101st career shutout as the New Jersey Devils beat the Minnesota Wild 4-0. That leaves Brodeur just two short of tying Terry Sawchuk’s N-H-L record. The victory was the 553rd of Brodeur’s career, also a league record. Patrik Elias scored twice, giving him 30 for the season. Brian Gionta and Johnny Oduya added goals to help the Devils extend their team-record home winning streak to 11.
Patrick O’Sullivan and Ales Kotalik scored shootout goals as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 for their third straight victory. Edmonton, 4-0-and-3 in its last seven games, strengthened its hold on seventh place in the Western Conference and closed to within a point of sixth-place Columbus. Chicago is 0-3-and-2 in its last five games.
Andy McDonald and Jay McClement scored third-period goals 51 seconds apart as the St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames 3-2. St. Louis moved past Minnesota, Anaheim and Dallas into ninth in the Western Conference standings, just two points behind Nashville in the battle for the eighth and final playoff spot. Mike Cammalleri and Dustin Boyd scored for Calgary.
Johan Franzen had a goal and two assists, and former Atlanta star Marian Hossa scored his 36th goal to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Thrashers 6-3 for their fourth straight win.
Chad LaRose and Matt Cullen each scored two goals and the Carolina Hurricanes ran their home win streak to seven games with a 5-4 win over the New York Islanders.
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-1.
Daniel Briere scored twice in 2:05 span in the second period for his first multi-goal game in more than six months, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
