Grey County is awaiting word from the province on changes coming to the application process for long-term care re-development and new beds.
CAO Kim Wingrove told county councillors at Thursday's meeting some of the details the province will seek in the application process may shift once the change is undertaken.
In January, county council resolved to rescind a previous decision to sell Grey Gables in Markdale and build an amalgamated long-term care home in Durham. The county must now amend its application for long-term care re-development with the province.
Rockwood Terrace must be upgraded to a Class A long-term care facility by 2025.
Wingrove says the direction from council is to proceed with 128 beds at Rockwood Terrace in Durham. She acknowledges council has also indicated a desire to look into adding beds at Grey Gables, but much work still needs to be done on that.
She says detailed analysis has not been done yet on the case to apply for additional beds at Grey Gables.
“What I would recommend is that we bring this forward to next committee of Long-Term Care Committee of Management and have conversation of what scope of that project would be,” Wingrove told councillors.
The Doug Ford government has committed to adding 6,000 new long-term care beds across Ontario and 15,000 over the next five years.
Wingrove adds Grey County also has passed a previous resolution to support private sector long-term care homes as well. She says through the Long-Term Care Committee of Management more conversations have to take place to understand what is in everyone's best interests across all service providers.
