Councillor Mike Myatt has filed nomination papers for the Vice Deputy Mayor position in the Town of Saugeen Shores.
Myatt says that he felt it was time to ”take a step up the municipal ladder” and says that this new position would help him take a more active role in accomplishing tasks he feels are important to residents.
Myatt says that he believes in transparency and open government and was successful along with Councillor Grace with introducing “Open Forum” prior to Council meetings where members of the public are invited to speak to Council about any item on the current agenda.
Myatt served as the Town’s Director of Community Services from 2001 to 2010, and over the past four years has served on Council as Saugeen Township Ward Councillor.
He says that despite being a councillor for Saugeen Township Ward, he always speaks for all 3 wards under the umbrella of the Town of Saugeen Shores.
Myatt says a big focus for him next term will be creating more affordable housing in Saugeen Shores.
Myatt is quoted as saying “I’m always just a phone call away and I want to hear of public concerns as I have always believed that public input is the key to Saugeen Shores success”. “While we may not always agree, I want to hear your views”
Myatt is currently the only person running for Vice Deputy Mayor in the upcoming election.
Running for Deputy Mayor are: Councillor Don Matheson, and current Vice Deputy Mayor Diane Huber.
Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau has thrown his hat into the ring for the Mayor’s chair. He is currently unopposed.
The municipal election takes place on October 22nd, 2018.
