If you have a craving for maple syrup – head to Hanover for the Mission Zimbabwe Maple Syrup Festival.
The festival is taking place this Saturday (Mar. 31st) from 9 am till 1 pm at Hope Community Church on 18th Avenue.
Along with pancakes, sausages and maple syrup, there is also a number of attractions and activities for the whole family.
This includes horse drawn wagon rides, live entertainment, maple syrup demonstrations, face painting, an Easter egg hunt, log sawing, rope making, crafts and more.
You can even walk an alpaca , take in a dog show or try your hand as a blacksmith.
Tickets are all inclusive, 10 dollars for adults and 6 dollars for children which covers both the meal and the activities.
All funds raised will be donated to the Village of Hope and Vimbainesu Childrens Home in Zimbabwe.
For the last twelve years the local Mission Zimbabwe group made up of members from across Grey and Bruce County have been working together to build and expand upon the Hope Village in Zimbabwe.
It began in 2007 with the construction of a small school with just 19 students, it has since expanded into an elementary and secondary school with more 700 students.
The local group has also been instrumental in raising funds and helping to construct nine Childrens Homes for orphans and abandoned children, each home house about 8 to 9 children. (housing 80 children.)
Fellow organizer Barb Clugston-Shaw says the Maple Syrup Festival is a great way to raise money for a wonderful cause.
The festival also helps fill the void left now that the Saugeen Conservation Authority is no longer hosting its annual Maple Syrup Festival at Saugeen Bluffs.
For eight years the Mission Zimbabwe Maple Syrup Festival was held in Scone, this is the first year at its Hanover location.
