The search is on for champions for social change, its all part of a provincial initiative to stop elder abuse.
Hanover is one of eight communities across the province to host the You Power workshop which is put on in collaboration with the Ontario Seniors Secretariat, Elder Abuse Ontario and Western University.
Hanover is the only workshop being held in rural southwestern Ontario.
Hanover Director of Recreation Sherri Walden says the workshop is for citizens, advocates and professionals who want to be part of the YOU Power movement to end abuse of older adults.
Walden is pleased Hanover was selected as a site for this workshop.
She suspects all of the hard work, time and effort Hanover has put into its Older Adults initiatives is the reason why the town was selected.
This provincial initiative is part of a movement of social change that is designed to engage communities across Ontario to end abuse of older adults.
Participants who coming from across the region to take in the workshop should have some experience with public speaking and making presentations.
This is because they will be required to make a minimum 3 presentations on the topic by this Fall as well as help support the roll out of a regional plan to engage the community in elder abuse prevention and intervention.
Thursday’s workshop will provide participants with the tools they need to help coordinate a plan within their own communities.
The workshop runs all day from 9 to 4 at the P&H Centre.
Pre-registration is required.
