Dundalk is set to boom over the next five years, with hundreds of homes planned by FLATO Developments Incorporated.
The company is actually looking at about 770 homes in three phases of development.
Southgate Township CAO Dave Milliner says it would roughly double the size of the Village of Dundalk.
Milliner says the first phase is called FLATO West with some 70 homes, and all have already been sold even though construction hasn’t even started.
Ranging roughly from $200,000 to $250,000 — Milliner says the yet-to-be built homes were snapped up after FLATO bused some people from the GTA to Dundalk and pre-sold them.
It’s expected the first phase of construction will begin this fall.
Dave Milliner says the municipality has some work to do, to prepare for the major housing development, providing water and sewer servicing.
Meanwhile, FLATO East will involve 450 homes and FLATO North about 250 homes with the developments expected to start in 2017 or 2018.
Milliner says the housing involved is single detached, semis and multi-unit homes.
The Township CAO says Dundalk is considered ripe for this kind of development right on Highway 10 because Shelburne is now beyond the reach of many first time buyers.
