Georgian Bluffs is planning to raise water rates by 10 per cent this coming year.
The Municipality is holding a public meeting on Saturday November 21st at the Shallow Lake Community Centre at 9 AM for the East Linton, Oxenden and Wiarton systems and then at 11 AM for the Shallow Lake and Pottawatomi Systems.
Mayor Al Barfoot says water rates are increasing to offset the rising cost of Hydro.
Georgian Bluffs had a set water rate for the past three years but Barfoot says it can’t compete with the increasing use of pumps which drives electricity costs up, and ageing equipment needs to be replaced as well.
The increase differs depending on which system you’re on, from just under $60 on the East Linton System to $170 on the Pottawatomi system.
Georgian Bluffs has East Linton, Shallow Lake, Pottawatomi, and the Oxenden/Gateway systems.
Barfoot says a letter has gone out with the water bills notifying residents about the meeting.
He says everything on the system will be explained at the meeting and Barfoot adds they’ll have all the facts and figures behind the increase.
