Due to the dry weather conditions, all outdoor burning is prohibited in Orillia until further notice.
Orillia Fire Chief Brent Thomas says his department is tracking weather conditions and the current factors are such that there is an extreme risk of fire spread.
Barbecues (propane and natural gas) and other appliances designed and listed for residential cooking use are exempt from the by-law and not affected by the fire ban.
Activities prohibited by the open-air burning by-law could result in a fine of $350 plus a victim surcharge fee.
Orillia’s Park by-law prohibits fires within all City-owned parks. This includes any fuel or charcoal-burning appliance or device used to cook food.
Oro-Medonte Fire and Emergency Services has changed the fire danger rating to extreme.
All outdoor fires are also prohibited in Severn Township until further notice.
