About 60 people attended an open house at the Collingwood Airport on Wednesday to hear about a proposal for a 200-acre business park.
A group of investors from Woodbridge has spent more than three million dollars buying farmland right next to the airport.
In one been buying up property in the area for the last several years, recently putting the final pieces in place.
The plan — according to developer Remo Niceforo — is to service the land and provide space for businesses connected to the aviation industry.
Niceforo says the rail line might play a role in the project in the future. Niceforo speculates that logistics companies or executive jets might use the space.
Niceforo says he has not been in contact with any businesses that might be interested, but he says there is a lot of potential in the site if the zoning changes are approved.
Niceforo says the WPD wind farm outside Stayner could hurt the development at the airport, so he says the group will be trying to have the windmill project quashed. It is currently in the final stages of approval.
Local planner Kris Menzies has been hired to help with the project along with CC Tatham and Associates.
Former MP Paul Bonwick is a consultant.
Bonwick told the crowd, the project is in such an early stage, there’s no way to know yet what it’s going to be.
When one of the people who live near the airport asked about the rumours she has heard, Bonwick said there is no plan for a casino or a highrise hotel.
