Canada’s Emergency Commercial Rental Assistance Program will be extended by another month.
Today PM Justin Trudeau announced this measure and addressed the current Covid-19 climate in the country.
Trudeau says that hotspots still exist, but nationally a better picture is slowly emerging with fewer hospitalizations and deaths.
Travel restrictions at the border still remain in place.
“Obviously, we’re going to continue to put the safety of Canadians at the very top of our priority list,” said Trudeau. “Which is why we have extended the border measures with the US until July 21st – we will continue to assess the situation and work with the Americans on what steps need to be taken into the month of August.”
Trudeau says even as the economy is relaunched, social distancing and wearing a face mask are important if we don’t want to lose important ground in the battle against the virus.
Trudeau will hold news conferences on the pandemic a few times a week from now on and not necessarily every day.
As we head into another week and more businesses across the country reopen their doors, I’m giving an update on the steps our government is taking to restart our economy and keep you safe. Watch my update live for all the details: https://t.co/vS0Wjlbc5s
