The owner and chef of the Rocky Raccoon Cafe in Owen Sound wants to give something back to his home country of Nepal.
Robin Pradhan says there is no clean drinking water in the country with raw sewage flowing directly in the rivers with thousands ending up sick or dying because of it.
Pradhan connected with a Guelph company, Wyckomar UV Purification Systems, and has now purchased 11 water filtration systems.
Using his own money and money from friends, Pradhan plans to take those systems to Nepal on November 1st and install them in schools in the country.
He says at least the roughly six thousand students attending those 11 schools will have clean drinking water.
Pradhan says he is focusing on children because that is where the dire need is.
But the story doesn’t stop there.
Pradhan wants to open two dozen not-for-profit stores in Nepal where businesses and homeowners can purchase similar water filtration units at cost.
While in Nepal next month, he also will meet with public health officials, nursing home operators and company presidents about setting up industrial water filtration systems from the same Guelph company.
The Owen Sound restaurant owner leaves November 1st and expects to be in Nepal for three to four weeks.
