The Province has unveiled a three-part plan to help farms and their workers in Windsor-Essex get tested.
It’s in advance of parts of that region making it to Stage 2 tomorrow (June 25th), except for the areas of Leamington and Kingsville.
Today Premier Doug Ford said the Province is taking the targeted actions to help the farming industry.
“Our temporary workers have access to the same benefits and protections as any other worker,” said Ford. “We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our farmers and our workers.”
The three points of the plan include, expanded testing starting on all farms – first at the largest ones, ensuring that temporary workers won’t lose their job or be sent home if they test positive. They are also eligible for WSIB and possibly, CERB benefits.
And lastly, new public health guidance is being made available for asymptomatic workers which will in turn give farmers help in isolating those workers who test positive.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with farmers, and we need their help to keep farms safe.
