The Chesley Heritage and Woodworking Museum is in jeopardy of closing.
The Museum’s Board of Directors has scheduled a public meeting on Tuesday night to see if it’s even worth fighting for.
Pat Carson sits on the Board and tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they’re at a crisis point.
Carson says the meeting at 7 PM on Tuesday in the Chesley Fire Hall will examine if the museum can continue and thrive.
There is also a second meeting, which will be hosted by the municipality on Monday September 17th.
That meeting is focusing on the museum’s current home, the “Dawson House.”
The 1885 building needs a number of repairs and council is currently weighing their options, including the possibility of selling.
Carson says the Board is not dismissing the idea of moving but feel the Dawson House, as a heritage building, is an important part of the museum’s appeal.
The Municipality offered to move the museum to another location, possibly the former Chesley town office but Carson says before that’s considered they need to know if the museum will remain open.
Carson says both issues require community will and leadership plus considerable funds.
She says the municipality supports the museum but the Board wants to know if the community does as well.
The Chesley Heritage and Woodworking Museum opened in the historic Dawson House as part of Chesleys 125th Homecoming Celebration in June, 2005.
