The municipality of Kincardine isn’t wasting any time.
Councillors learned the first spraying of Phragmites in the municipality will begin in September.
Town CAO Murray Clarke says they’re going to be working with Robert LeTourneau, one of the few licensed sprayers in the province who can deal with this reed.
Clarke says they’ll start the program at a cost of 20 thousand dollars with a view to putting money aside in the 2013 budget to deal with the 400-acres that needs to be treated.
$20,000 will clean up about 50-acres.
According to Mayor Larry Kraemer, phragmites is affecting some of the most valuable real estate in the community and is affecting the enjoyment of property by ratepayers.
Without dealing with phragmites, natural vegetation can be wiped out.
