The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is now open in its new home.
The doors to the Y at the new Regional Rec Centre opened at 5:45 AM on Monday.
Tom Rice — who led the drive for a new aquatic facility in Owen Sound for 30 years — was the first person to swim in the new pool on Sunday as members got a sneak peak at the new Y.
Staff have spent the last few days moving into the new facility after closing their 2nd Avenue East location last Thursday.
The staff got a surprise as they moved in — when they found small leaks in the roof of the new 39 million dollar Rec Centre.
The new Rec Centre includes a new eight lane, 25 metre pool, a therapy pool, fitness studios, training equipment and weights as well as a gymnasium and a walking and running track.
The twin pad arena at the Rec Centre has been open since April.
The downtown YMCA building has been sold to Amico Properties, which plans to renovate the facility and sell it to Bruce Grey Child and Family Services.
