Simcoe Grey stays blue.
Progressive Conservative MPP Jim Wilson has won a sixth term in the riding he’s represented since 1990.
Supporters and Jim Wilson’s campaign team cheered loudly and clapped after he was declared the winner.
Wilson says he’s not surprised by the results. He says he was feeling pretty confident heading into the election.
He tells Bayshore Broadcasting News when he launched his campaign, people were coming up to him, wishing him good luck.
And going door to door, Wilson says he was really feeling the support and jokes no one yelled at him or said anything negative to him.
Wilson got almost triple the number of votes that second place Simcoe Grey Liberal candidate Donna Kenwell had.
He’s won the last three elections with over 50 per cent of the vote.
Wilson tells us his goals for the next four years are to see the expansion of the Collingwood hospital become a reality as well as getting on track for a new on in Alliston.
Beyond that, he says he just wants to provide good service to his constituents.
Wilson has been the Deputy House Speaker and when asked if he’d like to move up to speaker, he says he’s enjoyed the deputy role and the new role would be challenging.
But he says even though it’s a secret ballot vote, the government tends to vote for their own, Liberal votes for Liberal, so he says he’ll have to wait to see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
