Tough talk from PM Justin Trudeau today who criticized the Federal Conservatives for standing in the way of a debate about funding to help Canadians with disabilities.
Yesterday, (May 10th) the Liberals tabled legislation to both approve a one-time payment of up to $600 for people with disabilities and introduce measures for debate that would give teeth to enforcing fraudulent use of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB).
“The Conservatives refused to even allow the house to debate this legislation, never mind voting for or against it,” said Trudeau.
Trudeau said the Liberals are deeply disappointed. He’s telling people with disabilities that his party will not give up.
The Liberals had separated the CERB measures from the legislation for people with disabilities and Trudeau says all the other parties agreed with that move.
He says only the Conservatives stood in the way.
Yesterday, the Conservatives wanted to hold out for a full resumption of the House of Commons instead. Party Leader Andrew Scheer said they would have debated the bill days earlier if the house had been sitting regularly.
