The Cops for Cancer shaveoff in downtown Owen Sound is being hailed a success.
More than 50 people shaved their heads, cut off thier ponytails, or waxed their chests at City Hall as part of the annual fundraiser for cancer research.
Almost 24 thousand dollars was raised Friday morning ($23,658).
Vicky Watson raised 4 thousand dollars by cutting off 21 inches of hair that she’s been growing for 15 years.
She says she was looking for a change in her own life while helping to change someone else’s life.
Her ponytail will go to Locks of Love to create wigs for pediatric cancer patients.
8 year old Meghan Bringleson also chopped off her ponytail and it too will be made into a wig.
She says she just wanted to help other people.
8 year old Bella Wuensch not only cut her ponytail off, she also shaved her entire head.
She says she knows a lot of people who have cancer.
Bella was able to raise 595 dollars and says her family thought she was crazy at first for wanting to shave her head but now they’re really proud.
There is also a shave off at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound today.
There are also Cops for Cancer events at Sidekicks Restaurant in Markdale at 5:30 PM and at the Hanover Pavilion at 6 PM.
