West Grey residents are being invited to a public meeting about proposed changes to the fire coverage area.
Fire Chief Phil Schwartz says they’re proposing to move some boundaries so they can cover more of their own municipality without buying service from others.
Schwartz says the changes aren’t very big – for example in the Bentinck area the boundary would be moved a mile and a quarter – but they will streamline service.
Schwartz says the changes would save West Grey Fire Service about 20 thousand dollars a year.
He says it may not sound like a lot but over 10 years that could buy them a new fire engine.
Schwartz says people are worried that the changes could mean a change in their insurance rating.
However he wants them to know that their rating is based on the closest fire station, not the responding fire station.
Schwartz really hopes people come out tonight to ask their questions because he says rumour and misinformation is swirling around.
The public meeting will be held tonight at Lamlash Hall at 7:30 PM.
