Ratepayers in West Grey are looking at a tax hike of less than one per cent.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says council has passed the 2010 budget with a 1.75 per cent increase in the local levy.
When combined with the county and education rates it comes out to a total increase of 0.94 per cent.
That means the average tax payer will see an extra 22 dollars on their bill.
The mayor says a negative increase would have been best but he is pleased with where they ended up.
He says they started out looking at a 10 per cent increase, but have backed out of some big capital projects while finding surplus funds from the winter roads budget.
Eccles also says that unlike many other local municipalities, West Grey did not suffer from a decrease in their Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding.
Instead, West Grey’s amount actually went up by 128 thousand dollars.
Eccles says while some roads projects have been put on the back burner, others will go ahead such as upgrades to South Mulock Road.
And a 781 thousand dollar refurbishment project is underway at the Durham Arena.
