It’s been several years now, but finally — Owen Sound owns the former CP Rail station on the waterfront.
Owen Sound Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, Steve Furness received word today that the agreement on the heritage site has now closed.
The city is picking up the roughly two thousand square foot building and land for 153 thousand 500 dollars.
Furness says they need to refurbish the building but he is confident that it can be used to draw people to the waterfront.
Steve Furness says the former CP Rail station is a significant heritage asset that has been sitting vacant for at least a decade.
Owen Sound will now own the building as part of it’s economic development strategy to enhance the downtown and harbourfront.
A “request for proposals” will be brought to council in the near future as the city seeks out interested developers for the site.
Furness says the property would be suitable for a number of uses, but the first that comes to mind would be a restaurant overlooking the water.
