Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis appeared at public event in the riding Friday for the first time since she was kicked out of caucus.
Guergis was at the ground breaking ceremony for the new permanent Georgian College Campus in Collingwood.
Guergis told the media after the event she is still trying to find out what the allegations are against her and has written a letter asking for a copy of the so called serious allegations given to the ethics commissioner.
The former cabinet minister is also saying publicly for the first time today, she will run as an independent in the next federal election if something happens that she can’t return to the Conservative fold.
Guergis says she does still hold on to hope that she will be able to get back to work and says she has the support of a number of her caucus colleagues and national counsellors who are outraged at how she’s been treated.
Guergis says for now she’s been working at home to take care of her constituents and even though her doctor has told her not to work a full schedule because of an undisclosed physical condition, she says she’s eager to continue to get out in the public and do her job.
Guergis says her condition is not related to the stress she’s been dealing with.
The MP tells us she is looking forward to appearing before the commons committee on June 9th and proving many of the allegations that have popped up in the media wrong.
