The Source Water Protection Committee is all smiles about Saugeen Shores.
Hydrogeologist Brian Luinstra appeared before council Tuesday night to present the findings of the Draft Proposed Assessment Report.
He says there are no significant threats to drinking water in Saugeen Shores.
Luinstra says that’s largely a function of the water coming from the lake and the fact that vulnerability in Great Lakes intake zones is relatively low.
Luinstra says there are some moderate and low threats in the area, such as the storage of fuel.
Now that those threats have been identified, it’s up to the local committee to establish policies to address them.
Luinstra says Saugeen Shores is certainly in a better position than many other municipalities across the province – in fact he says it’s the only one in our region to have no significant threats identified.
The Draft Assessment Report is currently in the first public consultation period.
A series of 8 meetings are being held around the region, with the closest to Saugeen Shores being the Kincardine meeting next Wednesday June 2nd at the Davidson Centre from 4 to 8 PM.
There is also a public meeting being held tonight in Walkerton at the Agriculture Society Building #2 from 4 to 8 PM.
