The latest from the scandal swirling around Simcoe Grey’s MP and her husband are allegations Rahim Jaffer misused a special passport for MP’s spouses.
And a government source says Helena Guergis will never be readmitted to the federal Conservative caucus.
The Toronto Star has the story of the mis-used passport, saying Jaffer used a special passport for MP’s spouses when he went on a trip to Cuba without Guergis.
In a statement — Guergis tells the Star, she and her husband were briefed on protocols about travel and behaved accordingly.
Meantime, senior party sources quoted by the CBC say despite her appeals and public relations campaign, Guergis won’t get another chance with the federal Conservatives.
The unnamed sources say the Guergis matter is -quote- behind us.
Guergis took her seat in the House of Commons as an independent this week for the first time since she was thrown out of the cabinet and caucus seven weeks ago.
There has never yet been word from the RCMP about an investigation into the allegations that led the Prime Minister to dump Guergis.
The Ethics Commissioner has declined to investigate.
There is plenty of speculation in the riding about who might replace her, with the names of several local mayors being floated, along with a prominent Toronto doctor, who has reportedly applied for privileges at the Collingwood hosptial.
