If you have taken a walk down 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound — you make want to glance up — at the new art banners adorning the lamp posts.
The banners are the product of the 2nd annual Art Banner project that saw over 200 entries this year.
Chairperson Kate McLaren – of Mudtown Pottery – says the support has been overwhelming from the artisans of the area – as well as the committee, sponsors and city council.
McLaren says a total of 48 original works were chosen for the banners that will hang until just after Thanksgiving weekend.
Of the 48 chosen – McLaren says two sports were left specifically for student artists to foster art in younger people.
The banners were chosen by jurors from the art community.
She adds that the response was so overwhelming that she sees no problem with the program continuing for years to come as there is a lot of undiscovered artisans in the area.
McLaren also says there has been inquires from other cities and towns on how to set up a program much the same for their communities.
