The number of building permits issued in Georgian Bluffs is down this year but the value of those permits is up substantially.
Chief Administrative Officer Bill White told council that 47 permits had been issued by of April including 10 new homes.
That’s a drop from 62 at that time last year.
But this year’s permits are valued at 3.7 million dollars..a jump of almost 600 thousand.
Just as importantly, the fees generated for the municipality by these permits have almost doubled – from 26 thousand last year to close to 52 thousand this year.
White says he can’t really explain why the dollar values are up but it’s a good sign for the municipality and a positive indicator that the recession is at or coming to an end.
