Police will be out in full force around Saugeen Shores this May long weekend.
Chief Dan Rivett says they are expecting to see an increase in activity.
Rivett says many people tend to come to tourist towns, and “let down their guard.”
He says many think they can get away with things like drinking in public, and not following the rules they have at home.
But Rivett says it’s still our home, and police are going to make sure nobody is breaking any laws.
He says there will be RIDE checks set up as well as seatbelt blitzes.
Police will also be setting up their annual Saugeen River Run, to make sure everybody is wearing lifejackets, and nobody is drinking or speeding on the waterway.
Rivett says the increase in police officers will be noticeable this weekend, as they are teaming up with several other detachments.
Saugeen Shores Police, Owen Sound, Hanover, and West Grey Police Services, as well as three OPP detachments are combining their services this summer during special events or holiday weekends in an attempt to increase road safety.
