The 25th Annual Fish Kincardine Derby kicks off today.
Committee Member Randy Duffie says they’ll be having a lot of entertainment so that everybody, not just the fishermen, can enjoy the week.
He says this Friday will kick off with a beef dinner down by the Kincardine harbour, and will feature a DJ and lots of local entertainers.
Both Saturday nights there will be a fish fry, and this Sunday will be wing night.
Duffie says they’re even hosting a kid’s day on Saturday the 22nd, which will feature a boating safety booth from the government’s transport ministry.
Duffie says they’re expecting anywhere from 500-700 fishermen to enter this year’s event.
He says because of the restocking programs from the Lake Huron Fishing Club and other clubs, the numbers are going back up, and the fish are getting bigger.
Last year’s winners were a 22 pound trout and a 15 pound salmon.
Duffie says the fish have increased in size over the past five years.
For those who are entering the derby, you should buy your ticket the day before you go out.
You can get tickets by contacting the derby office.
The derby runs from Friday, May 22nd to Sunday, May 30th, when a closing ceremony will be held, and the winners will be announced.
