As expected, Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith is running for re-election.
His papers have now been officially filed with the Town of Saugeen Shores, although Smith’s intentions have been known for sometime.
Smith says he just loves being the mayor of Saugeen Shores, and there’s a number of projects he’d like to see through, including the sewer upgrades in the north end of town.
He also wants to work on some more issues, such as the five year official community plan.
Smith says the last one was completed before the current term started, and it’s one of the most important documents a municipality has.
Smith says they’ll want to have the public engaged in that process as much as possible, because it’s important to know what the community wants.
He says they’ll also have to look at creating a sustainability plan, and believes it can actually be a part of the official community plan.
Smith says something else the next council’s term might look at will be a plan for the community’s beaches.
He says ever since tearing down the Port Elgin Water Treatment Plant, there’s been interest in seeing a plan developed for the beach.
