A lot of clunkers on the road.
That is the finding after Owen Sound Police and the MTO conducted a vehicle safety check on Thursday.
The safety blitz focused on commercial vehicles but it also included passenger vehicles.
A total of 23 vehicles were inspected at the Ministry of Transportation facility on 7th Avenue East, near the Coliseum.
Of the vehicles inspected, three had the licence plates immediately removed for serious safety defects.
Ten other vehicles were taken out of service for less-serious safety defects.
Many of the defects were related to the braking systems, steering and suspension.
In addition, several Highway Traffic Act charges were laid for various vehicle equipment and other violations.
Two vehicle inspection stations were also set up this week by South Bruce OPP — one on Valentine Avenue in Kincardine on Tuesday and one at the old MTO building in Walkerton on Wednesday.
Police say in total, 81 cars were inspected.
Of those 81 cars, 30 had their lisence plates removed, and 35 received notice for required repairs.
Only 12 were deemed safe.
Some of the unsafe cars had issues like no turn signals, no validation on plates, no exhaust pipe, and some were over the gross weight.
OPP remind us that operating a properly maintained and safe vehicle will help keep our roads safer overall.
