The Georgian Theatre Festival is staging a comeback.
A new five member Board of Directors is gearing up to hold a number of events including concerts and a youth academy this summer.
Board member and spokesperson Fred Carroll says they’ve already hosted a very successful event by bringing country music legend George Hamilton IV to Meaford United Church in April.
They’re now lining up some local groups for concerts in June, while the drama workshop for youth will be held at Woodford Hall in August.
Carroll says they would love to be holding these events in Meaford Hall, but some conditions need to change first.
The Georgian Theatre Festival was kicked out of Meaford Hall in 2007, when former CAO David Free filed a defamation lawsuit against the board and Manager Claudia Staines.
Council recently issued a formal apology to the group for the way things were handled, but the 1.1 million dollar lawsuit still has not been resolved.
Carroll says the apology is a nice start for some of the wrong doings against Georgian Theatre Festival.
But he says it will take some serious common sense from council and some ‘new blood’ on the Meaford Hall committee before they negotiate a return to the facility.
