Bruce Power is again teaming up with Ontario Power Generation to host the second annual Health and Wellness Fair.
Manager of Employee Wellness Catherine Williams says it’s an opportunity for local vendors and health care service providers to come to Bruce Power and set up exhibits.
She says through demonstrations and one-on-one counselling, it can help their employees better understand health issues.
Williams says the primary focus is on the top ten health issues employees face, such as cancer, heart and stroke, and arthritis.
She says they’ll also have other service providers so employees can educate themselves on issues their family members may be facing.
The biggest attraction is expected to be the giant colon, brought by the Colo-Rectal Cancer Association of Canada.
It is 40 feet long by eight feet tall, and people will be able to walk right through it.
Williams says colo-rectal cancer has a higher incidence and mortality rate in Grey-Bruce than anywhere else in Ontario, so this is of interest to the plant’s employees’ health.
Williams says they’re building off the success of last year’s health and wellness fair.
There will be about fifty vendors and a thousand employees attending this year’s fair.
The health and wellness fair for Bruce Power employees takes place Wednesday May 19th from 10 AM until 11:30AM.
