Your electricity bills are about to go up but don’t blame your local provider.
The President and CEO of Westario Power Lisa Milne says as of May 1st, an average customer bill is going up 14 per cent.
Milne says for the average homeowner is means $10.50 more and for a small business, about 22 dollars more.
She says the hike is not theirs but one that has been approved by the Ontario Energy Board for the cost of the commodity itself, before it reaches Westario.
Milne says the price is determined by the contracts negotiated by the province with its generators.
As a matter of fact, Milne says the Westario portion of the bill has not increased and won’t increase until May of next year, assuming he energy board approves.
In the meantime, Milne says Westario has complete installation of the Smart Meters to all of its customers.
She says although the meters are in, “the time of use pricing” won’t be established until sometime next year.
The time-of-use pricing, will charge more for electricity during peak use times and a reduction in cost will be made for use during so-called off-hours.
Right now, there is a flat rate charge for electricity no matter what time of day or night that it’s used.
