A prom party near Flesherton has turned tragic.
Grey County OPP say a teenager from Cambridge has died after his canoe overturned on Lake Eugenia.
Police say about a dozen students were attending the after party at a cottage on the lake when the boy and a girl set out in a canoe early Sunday morning.
Police say the pair ignored the cool temperatures and strong winds, and also did not put on life jackets.
When the canoe overturned the 14 year old girl managed to swim to shore where she was helped by nearby residents and treated and released from Markdale hospital.
However, the boy did not show up and an OPP Marine Unit and a helicopter from the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton were dispatched.
OPP Underwater Search and Recovery divers located his body in the water around 3 PM.
The 18 year old was a student at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge.
His name is being withheld to allow proper notification to family members.
Police say their investigation continues.
