Construction in Owen Sound is slowly picking up.
At least the building permits in March were flying out of city hall at more than double the rate of this time last year.
Development Co ordinator Sandi Parks says they issued 38 permits in March compared to 16 last year.
But the dollar value is way down, at 1.9 million compared to almost 4.5 million.
Parks says that’s because last year at this time — they issued the 4 million dollar permit for the new sewer plant and that’s going to skew the numbers.
She says if you took that permit out of the equation — we’re actually ahead of last year.
There were several large projects issued permits in March including the site services for the new regional rec centre, alterations to the MNR offices, the plumbing and site services for a 26 unit apartment complex and a single family home valued at 307 thousand dollars.
Parks says when the city finally issues the building permit for the 38 million dollar regional rec complex — that too will skew the numbers this year.
