It seems Helena Guergis is not about to give up her seat in Simcoe Grey without a fight.
Guergis and the Riding Association were informed Wednesday she would not be accepted as a candidate for the federal Conservatives in the next election.
Today, she has fired off a letter to the party’s Executive Director, Dan Hilton, complaining about the decision and asking that it be reversed.
In the letter obtained by Bayshore Broadcasting News — Guergis demands to know what allegations led the Prime Minister to remove her from caucus a month ago.
She also asks what prompted the national party to dismiss her as a candidate, with no election on the horizon.
Guergis claims to have been “charged, convicted, and sentenced without any due process” or knowing what she has done wrong, and blames what she calls endless rumours and allegations yet says there has been no investigation launched about her.
Guergis became a political liability for the Tories this spring when she apologized for the temper tantrum she threw at security at the airport in Charlottetown.
Last fall, her husband was charged with cocaine possession and drunk driving, and this spring got a plea bargain deal that saw serious charges dropped.
Since then, there has been a virtual non-stop series of revelations about Rahim Jaffer’s business dealings, including accusations he has been illegally lobbying the government.
Both Jaffer and Guergis have been asked to testify at the commons government operations committee next month.
