Simcoe Grey’s Conservative Riding Association says it will get to choose its own successor to Helena Guergis as Conservative candidate in the next federal election.
The association was informed by the national party yesterday that Guergis would not be a Tory candidate in the next federal election, whenever it is held.
But a member of the Riding Association tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the executive has received ‘verbal assurances’ from the national party that the local organization will be in charge of candidate selection.
The executive expressed concerns about the possibility of a star candidate running in Simcoe Grey in a strongly worded letter sent to the Prime Minister last week.
Rumours surfaced at the Conservatives’ Annual General Meeting last month that a doctor who practises at the Hospital for Sick Children would be ‘parachuted in’ to Simcoe Grey.
